King Tut

I am totally into other cultures. I love to read and experience the diversity of people. I also believe that by understanding where someone else comes from, their behavior and decisions can be explained. I wished that instead of making judgements everyone would take a deeper look into some else before making claims. Thats just a little soap-box arguement of mine.

My favorite culture to study is Ancient Egypt. One of my Christmas gifts was a trip to the King Tut and the Golden Age of Pharaohs at the Atlanta Civic Center.

The exhibit had statues and paintings from walls. I was amazed how beautifully crafted the artwork was. I was also impressed with the condition in which most of the pieces were presented. There was a wooden chest that was thousands of years old!

There are 130 pieces of history complete with captions. I could imagine going back in time to actually see an artisan sculpting a statue or craving a sarcophagus by hand for a pharaoh. The sarcophagus is literally covered with carving of designs, names, and spells.

Overall, this is a great experience for anyone interested in history, especially Ancient Egypt. Ej was slightly disappointed because there is no mummy there. So, you have been warned.

Vulcan Fangirl

I'm really going to live up to my blog name now. I have totally submerged myself into Star Trek lately. I've been reading "Spock's World" by Diane Duane. This is a great book for a TOS fan and also great if you want to get to know more about Vulcan.

If you are not a fan, I'll break down a little Star Trek information. Vulcans have lots of psychic abilities such as being able to transfer thoughts, force minds to change, and can even kill with only there minds. When a Vulcan couple wants to get married, they also get mentally bonded to the other.

The bonded couple can hear each other's thoughts and sense their emotions. I believe this to be a beautiful concept. What if you could speak to the person you love by sending them a thought that only they could hear. You don't even have to be able to see the person, just think the though.

I think that is would be the sweetest thing ever! I feel this close to Ej. We have a lot of the same thoughts and ideas to the point where its a little scary. I can only image how wonderful it would be to speak to him without words and from anywhere.

I may be the only one who thinks this, because I am a fangirl, but secretly I yearn to have this relationship with Ej.

Live Long and Prosper.

Merry Christmas from the Family

So you may not now that I come from a line of very anxious females. The females in my family tend to worry a lot about things beyond control or that are ridculous. I am currently attempting to avoid this fate with no avail.

The Holidays are always a great time for family. I truly deeply love my family. With that said, they can drive me crazy in ways I though were untouchable. My mom has asked me about a roll of tape that I haven't seen in a week. She continued to interrogate me about the location of the tape until I snicked on Ej. I knew he was using it last, and he swears it put it up. I'm sorry, baby, I love you.

In my family, not excluding the Y-chromosomes, can't make decisions. Everything from what food to what color plates becomes a trial. I know this is a fate that I already possess. Ask Elijah.

But I seriously love my family. Its just that maybe we should be all cooped up together for two weeks.

Update!

So I got the yucky illness. I have been sickly for about a week now. I have up and down moments, but as of today, I feel almost better. *almost*

I finished reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. That was a wonderful book! After our (Ej and I) last trip to Tybee/Savannah, I have totally fallen head over heels for Savannah. This book only strengthen my love for the city. If I had the chance, I would totally move there. Wonderful!

I got the new enV2 phone. I was a little apprehensive at first, but I totally love it now. I've had a night to play with it, and I am very content. Five Stars *****

I also got my mom to upgrade to unlimited texting. It was only $3 more than what we were already paying. So, why not? Text me!

Christmas shopping is here again. I love giving gifts, I just hate that gifts cost money. I always feel like I don't know what to get someone or that I don't have the money to get them what they desire. *sigh*

I officially don't desire anything for Christmas. Well actually, I desire one thing. I am totally turning into an old person, but I want a little Dust Buster vacuum. You know the little one that you charge with an outlet and use for little messes? I hate HATE to get out the huge vacuum for a little mess. Yesterday I spilled nerds on the floor and refused to get the vacuum out for them. Ej ended up sweeping them onto a piece of paper. I love him.

This is just a little update blog. Its easier than writing a blog for each individual event.

"Kick/Punch a Ginger" WHAT?!?!?!

Photobucket

s you may know, I am a ginger. I love being a ginger, I adore gingers. Most of my family are gingers.

I know I take the ginger jokes in stride, but I can not take jokes like "Kick a Ginger Day" or "Punch a Ginger Day" on Facebook lightly. I read that the idiot behind the "Kick" day apologized for his "joke" probably because of his attorneys.

I also saw on the 6:00 news that a ginger was injured after someone beat him up.

This is hate, not a joke. It is just as much hate as if someone beat up another for being black, white, Asian, Native American, male, female, straight, gay, etc.

I think that Facebook should be held responsible for the injury to gingers. Facebook needs to take a careful look at what people post.

I am glad that there are other groups coming to the rescue of gingers such as "Hug a Ginger Day" or "Apologize to a Ginger Day".

I am proud to be ginger. There are children who are constant;y teased for being a ginger. Posts asking others to hurt ginger will only reinforce those fears.

Forgiveness

I'm glad to see the Vatican decided to forgive John Lennon for saying the Beatles were bigger than Jesus.

It only took42 years for the Vatican to practice what is preaches.

Oh another note. Glen Campbell will be releasing an album of rock n roll covers with "Grow Old With You" written by John Lennon on it.

Reckoning or Whoa Moment

Have you ever had a moment where you make a discovery about yourself. I true,"Whoa" moment?

We were unpacking the Christmas stuff from storage, like we do every year. I, as usual, was nominated to go into the storage room and retrieve the boxes labeled "x-mas". As I was gathering the boxes and passing them out to the receiver, my mom, I kept knocking over other boxes.

The contents of those boxes are what caused the "whoa" moment. I found a paper sarcophagus that I made went I was in elementary school. I remember in art class discussing Egyptian mummies and looking at photographs from their tomb. I don't think that touched the other students quite as deeply as me. See, for years I had read about Ancient Egyptian culture, religion, and practices. Thought the art work is that of a child, I can look back and remember how excited I was to be creating what I had read about.

In another box, I found a toy that I had not seen in YEARS. As soon as I picked it up to put it back into the box, I felt the memories flood back. It was an action figure (not a doll) of Dracula from Universal Monster series. When you squeeze his legs together, his arms raise and his mouth opens revealing his sharpen canine teeth. A small smile grew across my lips as I stood there squeezing his legs, gently at first to test the waters. At this moment I realized, I was such a weird kid!

Don't get me wrong, I loved Barbie, ask my sister. We would play with Barbies for hours with stopping. But deeper down, I always had an affinity for the dark. I loved the Universal Monster toys. I had a Creepy Crawlers maker. I was probably the only seven year old to adore The Addams Family and the Munsters. Halloween was my favorite time of the year. I read medical textbooks given to me by my aunt. I was totally weird.

I could go on and on about the thoughts that flooded my brain as I held that toy. I love "whoa" moments. I found information that totally explains who I am, and that is relieving.

**For the record, I stuck the little Dracula in my pocket and he is now back at my house where he belongs. I am currently trying to find him a home around the new TV area**

TV Dreams, Finally Come True

Ej and I are the proud parents of a 50" Plasma Panasonic 1080P television.

I'm super excited about our first large purchase! Now we have something to argue about if we divorce. :)

The TV is beautiful. We have played Fable 2 and watched shows, thus far. I truly don't know how I have lived this long without this quality.

:)

A great story, just in time for Halloween

I have never personally had an encounter with a ghost or spirit, but I believe that I may have or will have.

At my place of work, we had a great employee and a good friend that suddenly passed away due to a heart attack. He was young (50s) and work was a big part of his life. Whether the death was sudden and thusly caused his spirit to stay or maybe work was so important to him, he decided to stick around, I don't know.

The first incident occur after one of my fellow employees mentioned him in passing. She turned on the coffee maker to get ready for the day and we all sat in another room waiting for opening. Then another employee comes by to inform me that the coffee maker is producing coffee all over the floor and counter with no coffee filter nor a coffee pot to catch the liquid. I spring into action (like I always do) to clean up the mess.

After cleaning I go to the employee that turned on the coffee maker to see if it was a prank or accident. She then informed me that she only turned the machine on and did not start it. So, mechanical failure or some more?

The second incident I did not personally witness. There was two employees sitting in the back of the building waiting for closing on the same day as the coffee mishap. The told me that the back door would slowly swing open and closed. Draft or something more?

This is the first time I has ever know something like this to happen where I work. I have been there three years and never experienced anything similar. I wonder if this was a fluke or maybe more to come.

Secretly, I hope there is more to come.

Wonder Why We Ever Go Home

So, I got back Monday from Ej and my pilgrimage to Tybee Island for the 4th Annual Pirate Festival.

Today, I'm still suffering from exhaustion. We walked so much! At home, when I try to walk to get exercise, I get bored. We had to have walked miles in Savannah and I never got tired. Not Fair!

I hope to publish details of the trip soon with pictures!

I also began reading Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. It's a Savannah thing.

Nothing.

Lately, I've been neglecting my blog. I just don't know what to write!

I don't want a blog about my boring life...I really don't do anything interesting..I work, sleep, eat, spend time with the BF, D&D twice a week, and video games.

I wanted to write a blog that people would find interesting. ANYTHING besides my life.

Alas, I got nothing.

Hot Patootie! Bless my soul!!

I'm so excited about the faerie mod that Ej has been writing. I'm currently waiting to meet him in the field to prepare him for his big entrance! I hope the town (Stonewood Pass) will enjoy!

This character is based on Frank from Rocky Horror Picture Show. I LOVE this film! I also love the fact that Ej looks a lot like Frank. I'm glad he chose to do this character in his fashion because I always wonder what Ej would look like as Frank.

Maybe it will be a future Halloween costume. :)

Quickie for the road

So...in my last post I mentioned planning for LARP and trying to get a new job.

Fortunately, fate my have shined on me. A job could be just around the bend. :)

For as for LARP, it's going great! The only downfall is that I think I have pinkeye or severely inflamed eyes. Not sure which yet...

I went to see Igor...its awesome!

I finished crying in the instant that you left...

SO....I've been neglecting my blog lately. I apologize deeply.

TO prove that I haven't just been lazy. I'll give cliff-notes version of what I've been doing. First, writing LARP mods. Second, applying for jobs (both forensic and other). Third, watching way too much TV. Fourth, myspace. Fifth, Dungeons and Dragons twice a week. Sixith, thinking.

I've been thinking way too much. For me, thinking leads to worry then worry to depression. I really need another job. Tomorrow I have substitute teacher training. I really don't want to babysit children but its something to pass the time. I have official decided to go back to school. Now the question is where....

I've applied for a job with the local funeral home. I pray that he calls me back. I need a job more related to forensics and less distant. I don't mind dead people, really...

Now that the updates are over...the real subject. Jackson and I are not engaged. Before I post more, I just want everyone reading this to know this bit of info. I've been watching WE network all day about weddings.

The show Rich Bride, Poor Bride is about couple making budgets (secretly) then the wedding planner helps to try to stick to the budget as the couple nearly splits. (Just an observation, if you can survive the ceremony, you might not divorce in a year.) At the end of the show, the couple revels the budget and how much they actually spent. The least over budget as $2,000 and the most $22,000. WOW.

The other show was Amazing Wedding Cakes. The AWC focuses on 4 cake shoppes in different parts of the US. The show goes through the concept of the cake thru to the finished product. I was disappoint not to hear prices. (They slipped up and said one cake was $600 neighbor) I was quite impressed with the quality and creativity of the cakes.

Any woman with working hormones would be affected by these shows (and the whole damn network). It made me begin to think about what I want for our wedding. Hmm.. starting with the first dance song.

The first dance has always been very important to me. I want the song to be a representation of us. One song that has been on my mind is "Its All Coming Back to Me" by Meatloaf.

Here are the lyrics:
There were nights when the wind was so cold
That my body froze in bed
If I just listened to it
Right outside the window

There were days when the sun was so cruel
That all the tears turned to dust
And I just knew my eyes were
Drying up forever

I finished crying in the instant that you left
And I can't remember where or when or how
And I banished every memory you and I had ever made

But when you touch me like this
And you hold me like that
I just have to admit
That it's all coming back to me
When I touch you like this
And I hold you like that
It's so hard to believe but
It's all coming back to me
(It's all coming back, it's all coming back to me now)

There were moments of gold
And there were flashes of light
There were things I'd never do again
But then they'd always seemed right
There were nights of endless pleasure
It was more than any laws allow
Baby Baby

If I kiss you like this
And if you whisper like that
It was lost long ago
But it's all coming back to me
If you want me like this
And if you need me like that
It was dead long ago
But it's all coming back to me
It's so hard to resist
And it's all coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now
But it's all coming back

There were those empty threats and hollow lies
And whenever you tried to hurt me
I just hurt you even worse
And so much deeper

There were hours that just went on for days
When alone at last we'd count up all the chances
That were lost to us forever

But you were history with the slamming of the door
And I made myself so strong again somehow
And I never wasted any of my time on you since then

But if I touch you like this
And if you kiss me like that
It was so long ago
But it's all coming back to me
If you touch me like this
And if I kiss you like that
It was gone with the wind
But it's all coming back to me
(It's all coming back, it's all coming back to me now)

There were moments of gold
And there were flashes of light
There were things we'd never do again
But then they'd always seemed right
There were nights of endless pleasure
It was more than all your laws allow
Baby, Baby, Baby

When you touch me like this
And when you hold me like that
It was gone with the wind
But it's all coming back to me
When you see me like this
And when I see you like that
Then we see what we want to see
All coming back to me
The flesh and the fantasies
All coming back to me
I can barely recall
But it's all coming back to me now

If you forgive me all this
If I forgive you all that
We forgive and forget
And it's all coming back to me
When you see me like this
And when I see you like that
We see just what we want to see
All coming back to me
The flesh and the fantasies
All coming back to me
I can barely recall but it's all coming back to me now

Post Dragon*Con Update

Yes we survived Con. Jackson and I had a blast! We got to meet some neat people, run into old friends, and walk our feet off.

Con was great, as always. I got some neat things and lots of memories to cherish! Thanks to Jud for hanging out with us :)

My costume was awesome and I actually had someone ask for a picture. I really wasn't expecting that seeing how Star Trek is very popular, especially for costuming.

Jackson and I have now moved on to building a great Halloween LARP event. I'm trying to help where I can so Jackson won't be so stressed out. This means lots of costuming, strobe lights, fog machine tests, and decorating for the big weekend.

Fortunately, we started early this time. :)

Dragon*Con: The Countdown

So its Friday. Jackson and I will be attending Dragon*Con on Sunday. I have to work Friday and Saturday and he didn't want to go without me. He is so sweet!

An update on my crafts, now. The lunchbox took FOREVER to paint due to the poor weather around my house. There was a constant rain for like 4-5 days straight. So besides being depressed and lonely, I also couldn't get my Vitamin D from the sun. Bummer. I believe that I have abandoned the lunchbox for now. I truly do not have time to get the pictures ready and put on completely. The project would be rushed and half-assed. Its not workth doing if its not full-assed. :)

As for my uniform, Jackson will be cutting it out today. I can sew well but I have difficulty cutting the material in a decent fashion. Once he cuts out the pieces, I can help him pin them together and we can break out the two sewing machines. MUHAHAHAHA! Then the real fun will begin.

I jsut hope this costume turns out well. I haven't made plans to wear anything as a backup, so I'm pretty much banking on this working. I know it will be great. I just hope that Jackson can get me started in the cutting department. I would also like to do a test run before Sunday. I would prefer to get up on Sunday and put on a costume that I'm happy with.

I will try to post pictures from Dragon*Con as soon as I can. I may not blog tomorrow, depending on how much I have ready for the big day. :)

The Loss of a Great Henchman

As a HUGE fan of the adult swim show The Venture Brothers, I tune in every Sunday at 11:30pm to watch the latest episode of season three. The final two episodes entitled A Family That Slays Together Stays Together I and II were quite a shock to Venture fans.

Throughout the final episode, I had a feeling that someone wasn't going to be in the fourth season. Every time a character did something dangerous, I just knew it was the end for them. Despite that lengering feeling, the episode began to close and I thought we had dodged a bullet. Not so fast.

One of the characters since the beginning, Henchman #24 was killed in an explosion with H.E.L.P.E.R. Jackson and I were horrified to see #24's head fly from the wreckage of the Monarch-mobile and land in the arms of his hetero life partner #21. At first I thought, no. This will just be another nameless Henchman, but it was confirmed.

The tee shirt for the last episode on the Tee Shirt of the Week was in memory of #24. WHY?!?!?!

May he rest in pieces, a good friend and a great Henchman. May he find a villian in the sky where he will finally be Henchman #1.

Dragon*Con 2008: The Preparation Continues

In my last post, I wrote about my costume for Dragon*Con.

Today, I started working on my "purse". Its actually a plain lunch box from Hobby Lobby. I plan to paint it and put pictures of the Original Crew of the Enterprise. While watching episodes of TOS, I used painter's tape to cover the trim to protect it from the paint.

Tomorrow, I plan on applying the paint to the lunch box so it has time to dry. I have picked out the photographs to go onto the box, but i still have to print them out and resize them.

I'm not sure how long it will take for the paint to dry due to the stormy weather and changes in humidity. Hopefully I can get the box painted and the pictures ready to apply tomorrow.

Jackson and I will also have to work on the uniform. Once he has my measurements, the sewing should not be such a problem.

A great find at the Thrift Store today will help to accent my costume. I found an old glue gun that kinda looks like the phasers. The most impressive thing is that the glue gun only cost me 54 cent. I think that is enough for a project. I plan on spraying the white gun black and adding some silver highlights to make it look more like a phaser.

Only 7 Days Until I Go to Con!

Dragon*Con: Tonight We Prepare

ACTUALLY, the preparation will take longer than tonight. I'm fairly worn out from the restaurant and do not have all of the supplies necessary to complete such a task.

My first convention was Anime Weekend Atlanta in 2006. In 2007, I went to Dragon*Con for the first time and fell in love. Its a great convention full of great panels, fans, actors(some actors), concerts, and shopping. There's a little bit of everything.

Last year, Jackson dressed up in his LARP character to promote the game he plays in. As much as I love cosplay, I didn't have the time nor money to prepare for the day. I felt a little inadequate, since this was my first large scale convention. This year, I will have a costume. I have set my heart on that matter.

I am a HUGE Trekkie. I adore the TOS or The Original Series. So for my costume, I decided to build (with the help of Jackson) a uniform like the female officers wore. I have sketched the uniform based off of watching TOS and the internet.

I am super excited about my costume! I will publish photos as soon as I can and I will definitely upload photos from the convrntion.

Dungeons and Dragons! Oh My!

I recently watched the film Gamers. This is a mockumentry about a group of guys (of course) that are obsessed with the rpg Demons, Nymphs and Dragons. They have played for 74,558 hours and are attempting to break the record for longest hours ever played. The film looks into their lives, sacrifices, and dedication to the game while viewing their personal lives.

After viewing this film, I had a renewed interest in D&D. I've been playing for about a year now and started with a combination of 3.o and 3.5 edition. Since 4th edition came out in June, I've been playing two separate games. In my boyfriends campaign, I play a level 3 (soon to be 4) Tiefling Warlock named Nemia. In our friend's campaign, I play a recently (last night) level 4 Dragonborn
Cleric.

Before watching this film, I would feel the stress of playing. The game almost seemed like a job or task. I had gotten to where I didn't look forward to playing. Thats went I realized that I can't continue like that. D&D is a hobby not a chore. But, after being amused by the group and seeing their struggle, I could relate. I knew the stress of everyone depending on you to put your heart in the game and to not half-ass it. My faith and interested was renewed in an 87 minute film.

I have actually begun to tabulate my own rpg hours. Wonder what that will tally to, 75,000 hours? :)

Yes, Massster!

So, I'm probably jumping the gun here, but I found a new comic that is currently be made into a movie.

Well, actually, the comic is a prequel to the movie to help introduce the characters before the movie comes out. Its called, Igor. The story about a dark humor town of Malaria. In Malaria, the best job is being an evil scientist. Every year these is an evil science fair to determine who is the best evil scientist.

Of course, these scientists need someone to pull the switch! There are Igors for purchase at Igorium. :) There is an accidental switch between to rival scientists, and so we meet Igor, the star.

Igor is smart and has ambition of becoming the first Igor evil scientist! Follow the adventures of Igor, Scamper, and Brain (both failed experiments) as they secretly try to develop the perfect experiment to win the evil science fair!

The movie itself has a star struck cast including John Cusack, Steve Buscemi *blushes*, Christian Slater, John Cleese, Sean Hayes, Jay Leno, Molly Shannon, Arsenio Hall, James Lipton, and Paul Vogt.

Here is a trailer for the movie Igor set for release September 19th 2008!

the Dark Knight **no spoilers**

I just arrived to Jackson's house after viewing the Dark Knight.

It was a wonderful film. I will not put spoilers into this blog because I want everyone to see it un-spoiled for themselves. :)

I will say that Heath Ledger did an excellent job. Too bad that he died before he could see the finished product. I believe, after seeing this film, that he was destined for greatness.

Alas, we will never know.

Word to the Wise

Words are essential to human vocabulary. Webster's dictionary has done a good job keeping up with all of these tidbits that convey our messages. Recently Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary added a new word, "fanboy". This immediately caught my attention as I was channel surfing.

The definition according to Merriam-Webster Online is "a boy who is an enthusiastic devotee (as of comics or movies)". That pretty much describes it. So, after reading about the definition of "fanboy" I decided to try "fangirl".

No luck. So I tried a different source, Urban Dictionary.com. While reading the definitions, some made good points. Like "a passionate fan of various elements of geek culture (e.g. sci-fi, Star Wars, video games, anime, Magic: the Gathering, etc.), but who lets his passion override social graces. "

After reading over different definitions of "fanboy" (most
were derogatory), I got brave and decided to search for "fangirl".

They were defined as "
1. (derogatory) a female fan, obsessed with something (or someone) to a frightening or sickening degree. Often considered ditzy, annoying and shallow.
2. (playful, good-natured) less extreme, a female fan who can laugh at their own passion for their particular interest (or even obsession)."

Do I think this is accurate? Sadly, there have been some fangirls that I have encountered that were crazy or definition #1. I, myself, fall into definition #2. I know that I become easily obsessed with different "nerd" things. But I am NOT ditzy, annoying or shallow.

I am impressed that Merriam-Webster has finally began to define words that may not be correct English, but used daily.

And the first place is...

I'm back from my trip to Missouri. YAY!

By the way, we won gold for the Crime Scene Investigation competition. We were sitting in the stadium. And I mean, stadium. The place was huge, but people filled every seat. They broke the awards into three sections. Cosmetology came in the second section. The girl from Griffin Tech didn't win her section. We later found out she came in fourth. Finally it came around to announce the winners of the crime scene competition. Bronze went to Illinois. Then second place went to Florida. At this point we are terrified. We either placed first and get to go on the huge stage in front of hundreds of people or we get to disappoint Griffin Tech. They announce Griffin Tech as winning first! We all jumped up and screamed. Our instructor, who is a very serious person even jumped!

We got the gold medal (which is significant'y larger than the state medal) on the stage! We congratulated the other competetors and recieve our reward. The prize for first and second place was our very on fingerprint kit in a heavy duty crime scene kit. We were so excited! Over all of the excitement of the awards, we got to have a nice supper with all of the advisors and students in Post Secondary (College) Level from Georgia. And I finally went to sleep after some very important phone calls. :)

The plane ride back wasn't so bad. We had to go through some rain clouds with some bumps, but overall it was okay. I was greeted at Griffin Tech by a well missed hug and kiss from my boyfriend, Jackson. I have never been so happy to know where I was again! :)

Sunday was a big day. We got up extra early (7 am) to decorate for my graduation party/champion party. We had a crime scene set up for people to look at. Everything was decorated in yellows and blacks (like crime scene tape). It was a blast! I've never had so much fun in my life!!!!

Now I just have to survive Bible School for the next couple of days.

First Post and Out of State

This is my first post on this site, but I felt this would be a great time to get started.

I'm currently in Kansas City, MO on a SkillsUSA trip. SkillsUSA is a academic group for people in the technical field. I got here because I was in the Forensic Science degree program at Griffin Technical College. I graduated a couple of weeks ago. A team I lead went to State Competion (of Georgia) and won!

Winning State means going to Nationals! We made the plans to go and here we are! We arrived June 23 and will be staying until June 28. We competed in the Crime Scene Investigation contest on Wednesday.

This has been a great week for me to meet people and enojy new things. First, I had never flown before. Secondly, I've never been to Missouri. Third, I've never stayed in such a nice hotel (Sheraton). I got to go to a Japanese Steakhouse. I've had lots of fun here!

The Midwest is hot, very hot.
